Your Guide
to Axi Fees and
Charges

From the moment you transfer funds to your broker until they complete their round-trip back into your personal bank account, certain fees and charges might incur.

Spreads

Spreads refer to the gap between the buy (bid) and sell (ask) price, which is usually the most significant expense. Every time you open and close a trade, you incur the full cost of the spread. Tight spreads indicate lower trading costs and better liquidity. Axi provides competitive spreads for a wide range of CFD instruments.

Spreads are traditionally represented in either pips (the change in value between two currencies) or cents. The spreads on some of our most popular trading instruments include:

Commissions

Axi does not charge a commission for Standard Accounts. Transaction fees are included in the spread for each product. As the counterparty to your CFD trades, Axi determines the buy and sell prices for the CFDs on its platforms. These prices may not always reflect the exact prices of the underlying assets in the real market.

Factors that help Axi manage risk, such as transaction size, your business relationship with Axi, prevailing market rates, interest rates, swap fees, and rollovers (more on these below), as well as instrument-specific factors, influence the price of a CFD on Axi's platform.

Financial rates (swaps)

Maintaining a CFD position overnight incurs a financing cost, also known as “interest”, “holding fees”, or “swaps”, which represents the difference in interest rates between the underlying asset (such as a stock or currency) and the broker's interest rate.

Holding a CFD position overnight is similar to borrowing money against the underlying asset. If the asset's interest rate is higher than the broker's rate, you'll incur interest charges.

How it works

Daily Financing FeesFinancing fees will be applied to your account daily based on open positions at the end of the business day.
Calculation MethodFees are calculated based on swap rates, displayed in the "Swap" field on your MT4 or MT5 trading platform.
Positive vs. Negative Swap Rates

The swap rate can be positive or negative:

  • If the swap rate for your position is positive (long or short), you will receive a financing benefit.
  • If the swap rate for your position is negative (long or short), you will accrue a financing charge.
  • In rare cases, when the interest rate in the underlying asset's currency is lower than the broker's interest rate, the swap rate can be negative for both long and short positions.
Currency ConversionThe interest rate difference between two currencies in a trade is converted to the account currency before being added or removed. You can find current rates on the trading platform.

Timing and details

Daily Financing Fees TimingWe apply financing fees daily, 30 seconds before the 17:00 New York close.
Triple Daily Swap for Some Currency PairsSome currency pairs may require a triple daily swap on Wednesdays or Thursdays to accommodate weekend settlements. You can find details on which pairs have triple swaps in our Product Schedule
Holiday Impact on Swap RatesWhile short holidays typically do not affect swap rates, extended holidays such as the Lunar New Year and Golden Week may be an exception.

Swap-Free Accounts

Swap-free accounts are designed for traders whose religious beliefs prohibit earning or paying interest. Unlike standard accounts, these accounts do not incur overnight financing charges, which are interest-based costs applied for holding positions overnight in FX, Bullion Spot, or Cash CFDs.

To maintain a competitive swap-free account offering and cover additional costs, Axi applies an overnight holding fee. This fee is not interest-based but is a fixed charge that ensures compliance with Islamic finance principles while accounting for position maintenance costs.

Other factors to keep in mind

Certain market events (such as dividends, stock splits, and rollovers) can impact the value of your CFD positions. While not directly related to the fees and charges, they can influence the margin required on your account. Understanding these events can help you make better decisions and reduce risk.

Corporate actions and dividend adjustments

Share CFDs can be adjusted based on corporate actions and positions, with dividend payments being the most common. Adjustments are made based on the net exposure value and are credited or debited on the ex-dividend date. Stock splits increase outstanding shares to improve liquidity, and the dividend per share is adjusted accordingly.

For example, if you own 10 shares of a $100 stock, a 2-for-1 stock split will result in 20 shares with a market-adjusted price of $50 each, with no impact on your overall holding value.

Index CFDs are based on a basket of stocks, some of which may pay dividends throughout the year. When a firm in the index pays a dividend, its stock price typically falls by the amount of the dividend, affecting the index’s overall value. Dividend adjustments are only relevant to net positions when trading Index Cash CFDs. A decrease in the index price benefits short positions, while it negatively impacts long positions.

The dividend adjustment will be debited from or credited to your account, as applicable, at the end of business on the ex-dividend date.

Rollover fees are charged for Commodity Futures and Index Futures CFD products when expiring contracts are rolled over to keep a position open. This process ensures that the rollover results in no profit or loss, with charges or benefits reflecting the difference between expiring and new contract prices. If there is a profit, we apply a charge, and if there is a loss, we credit a swap benefit. The rollover typically takes place 1-2 trading days before the last trading day of the underlying instrument.
